BIOGRAPHY

Growing up in a musical environment (Le's parents both having pursued degrees in music performance) and learning to play piano before he even started kindergarten, pursuing music seemed like a natural progression. While attending UCLA on a full jazz scholarship, he assembled his major project Le J Trio, alongside bassist Owen Clapp and percussionist Jake Jamieson. Out of that collaboration came the EP "Lost and Found," released in March 2011 and featuring several of Le's original compositions.

Influenced by the likes of Art Tatum, Herbie Handcock, Mos Def, Gerald Clayton and Eyedea, his repertoire is multi-faceted. Le dabs into funk, jazz and hip hop, among others. With his hands in quite a few projects, he has worked with several artists. During July 2012 Le toured the US with hip hop artists Dumbfounded & Breezy Lovejoy. Later that fall he was on the road with R&B/hip hop singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko as part of Nas & Lauren Hill's Life is Good/Black Rage Tour.

His upcoming Untitled album, to be released later this spring, will be in an acoustic trio format (piano, bass, drums), putting an emphasis on improvisation. But until then, take a listen to his most recent work!
